Automation testing in a startup environment is not easy as the requirements keep changing and test plans are not very clearly defined. However, Test Automation is the way forward to ensure quality with such short cycles.
The process that we follow for automated testing in a startup environment is slightly different from what we do:
Usability of the ecommerce platform is the key, as customers tend to move away from you, if they don’t find what they are looking for intuitively. Additionally, there are a number of things that one has to be careful about in terms of collecting and storing personal and payment information. They have to be compliant to multiple standards and specifications.
Automation testing is ideal to ensure functionality and performance of the platform, while ensuring reliability and availability.
Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) today don’t have much choices and most of what they do is driven by the expectations of their customers. ISVs do not have the choice of choosing if they want to go the SaaS or the cloud route, as that’s what the customer wants. It means agility is the most important asset and that means shorter cycles for development, release, deployment and feedback mechanisms.
In such a scenario, test automation plays an important role in providing confidence to the ISVs about their deployment.
